Library Systems Management

The LICT and Innovations team manage various systems in the Library which includes proprietary, open source and cloud based. Technical support and training on the systems forms part of LICT services.

Some of the systems and applications managed by LICT and Innovations are:

  • The Alma Library Management System, where all access to University of the Western Cape's (UWC) physical and electronic library collection are made available. Library functions like acquisitions, cataloguing and circulations are performed on the Alma system.

  • The Library Discovery Tool (PrimoVE), called uKwazi, provides access to resources that supports learning, teaching and research. This includes an interface for users to manage their information sources.


  • The MyPC Reservation self-service system allows users to view computer availability and make reservations via a smartphone, tablet or computer.

  • Open Journal Systems (OJS) is an open source software application for managing and publishing scholarly journals.

  • DSpace (Repository) is an open source software platform that enables the UWC Library to capture and describe digital material using a submission workflow module.

  • Omeka S (Digital Collections) is a free, flexible, and open source web-publishing platform for the display of library, museum, archives, and scholarly collections and exhibitions.
