Training

Support is offered through generic and faculty customised training to early career researchers that includes postgraduates from all seven faculties of the University of the Western Cape (UWC). Students, researchers and faculty are able to book themselves on the generic training sessions by using the UWC Library training calendar.

The postgraduate community is diverse, and training on a careful selection of multidisciplinary resources is included in the curriculum, to accommodate the different faculties.

Introduction to Library Services and Resources

Introductory training begins with a postgraduate orientation session where library resources, services and facilities are introduced. These sessions are repeated throughout the year targeting various registration periods, ad hoc sessions can be requested at any time.

Literature Search Strategies

Database training includes literature search strategies to assist researchers to find literature from the UWC Library’s resources. Literature search strategies unpack the topic, keyword identification, search strategy formulation, such as the use of Boolean Operators, truncation and phrase searching. The library discovery tool, databases and search enhancements are promoted during this training programme.

Search enhancement features enable easy access of open content. The free to download and install plugins enable students to access freely available content from different online platforms.
