Research Impact

Research Impact measures how research impacts the real world. A Research Impact Assessment for institutions or individual researchers illustrates how their research has been used or applied in practice. Over time research impact can illustrate research performance and productivity. Research Impact can be measured through a variety of metrics and services. The most common measurement is the h-index for individual researchers which reflects how often publications are cited over the number of publications produced by an individual researcher. At institutional level, databases like Scopus and Web of Science (illustration) help identify collaborations with other institutions, countries and disciplines. These databases can indicate how many articles were published, who the collaborating authors were and their institutions. Other data includes the number of times the articles were cited, who cited them and over which period. Other publication metrics tools include PlumAnalytics and Altmetrics which can track publications and citations across social media and other online platforms.
